I've been a Christian for a long time. My prayer life was never great. I knew I needed to pray, and I knew there were a lot of things to pray for. I didn't know how to stay consistent. I didn't know how to pray meaningfully.

A few years ago, my church started doing prayer revivals a couple of times a year. The first one, we all read Revival Praying by Scott Pauley. I read through that book a couple of times and even read a few of the books suggested at the end.

"When we pray in the Word of God, we can be sure that we are praying in the will of God."

That thought completely rewired the way I pray.

I got a notepad and started a list for praying for my husband. I thought of the things that felt most important to pray over him, and then I studied my Bible. For each request, I made sure it was scriptural — and I added those verses. As I prayed, I prayed the scripture and the request. Then I did the same for my children, my friends, my church.

Pretty soon I had all these individual slips of paper with no organization. If you know me, I love things to be organized.

I also noticed that God was moving in these prayers. I was seeing answers to prayers that I had carried on my heart for years. God was blessing. I was being consistent and sincere in my prayer life for the first time in my life. I finally loved spending time in prayer. I finally didn't feel like I was rushing through a list of desires, or praying meaningless words over and over just because I knew I needed to.

I looked around and couldn't find a prayer journal that fit what I needed. A few got close, but they still didn't meet my needs.

The Lord laid it on my heart to create one.
